We know the radius of the earth. We know Newton's law of gravity F=GmM/R^2 and Newton's second law, F=ma. We know the universal gravitational constant from Cavendish's experiment. We know the acceleration of objects due to experiment. Setting the two equations equal, we can compute the mass of the Earth.
